10 Steps to take when you are diagnosed with diabetes

It is very natural to get worried, fearful, upset when one is diagnosed with any chronic condition, the reason being lack of awareness about that condition. You may feel why me, what went wrong, etc. The below steps will help you if ever a condition unknowingly arises:

Simple steps to take when you are diagnosed with diabetes

  1. Be relaxed, don’t panic
  2. Accept the situation
  3. The internet is flooded with a lot of ambiguous information which you may come across, so do not fall prey to everything that is there. It may be misguiding. Too much information will create fear, confusion and worry.
  4. Fix an appointment with a diabetologist or your family doctor instead of taking home remedies
  5. Take a family member when you go to visit the doctor
  6. Make a list of questions which you and your family member would like to ask on your visit to the doctor (there are chances to forget because of worry)
  7. Get your doubts cleared (be free to talk to your doctor)
  8. Consult a diabetic educator and a nutritionist (most diabetologists will have an educator and a nutritionist, if not ask them to recommend)
  9. Talk with a friend or any family member who has this condition if you are comfortable and if you feel it may help you
  10. Take baby steps to make changes as recommended by your doctor
