Simple Precautions Which Can Be Taken To Stay in Good Health Condition
- Wash your hands and legs properly when you come from outside
- Maintain good hygiene
- Protect yourself from clogged gutters and dirty puddles
- Keep your surroundings clean and dry
- Keep mosquitoes out
- Keep the body warm
Include and Avoid
- Eat steamed and well-cooked food during this season than raw
- Include ginger, garlic and turmeric in your diet as they help fight infections
- Include herbal tea
- Include fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin c and antioxidants like cherries, jamun, peach, plum, pomogranate and apple
- Dinner should be very light mainly rice and jowar based preparations like khichadi, jowar roti + vegetable and dal, dal and rice with vegetable or jowar chilla with soup etc as they are easily digestible
- Avoid eating street food
- Avoid leafy greens during this time they are susceptible to worms
- Avoid Sour or acidic foods
- Avoid Spicy and oily food as it causes indigestion, bloating and salt retention
For Children
- Drink boiled water
- Wash fruits thoroughly before eating
- Have nutritious, light and hot home cooked food like dalia, moong khichadi, sautéed veggies, paratha, dosa, idli with sambar, pancakes etc
- Avoid raw/uncooked salads, chutneys, sandwiches and sandwich spreads
- Do not eat left-over food. Humid and high temperature can increase the bacterial growth in leftover foods. Discard them.
- Give them turmeric, dry ginger and jaggery balls to eat daily
- completely avoid eating unhygienic, uncovered roadside food
- Ask them to wash their hands and legs whenever they come from out
- Keep children well covered during day/night to keep them safe from mosquito bites. Use mosquito repellents and gels which are safe for children
- Dry them quickly if wet
- Keep cold cough medicines box ready
- Avoid sending them to school if they are not well as other children may catch their infection
- Before they go to bed give them a few sips of warm water to drink daily
